Last Minute Holiday Gift Ideas - Support Local this Season

2020 has been a whirlwind of a ride, but as the holiday season comes into full effect, we're walking around with a bit more pep in our step. However you might be celebrating the season, the holidays are all about being grateful for what you have, showing appreciation to your loved ones and supporting others that might need a hand.

This year we’ve curated a gift guide that is definitely wish list worthy, while also focused on Toronto’s local businesses. If you’re not from the area, we hope this list inspires you to gift from one of your local businesses.

For the Foodie Friend who has tried it all:

Support a few of their favourite restaurants by buying gift cards for them to use when restaurants open up or gift them ingredients to make their favourite dishes at home.

Photos by: Sugo and Famiglia Baldassarre

Grab a jar of Sugo’s famous House Made Sugo, put a bow on it, and that’s a gift anybody would love! $12 CAD

Place some Famiglia Baldassare fresh pasta under the tree, and that's a whole meal. $18 CAD +

For the friend who's eaten their way through the city, nothing will excite them more than getting to try something new. Having just launched on December 17, 2020, La Pecora is an exciting new entrant to Toronto's food scene. Chef Mike Sala pulled inspiration from his experiences working as a pasta chef in Italy to launch La Pecora, a food and meal kit delivery service. Meals are 90% ready to eat and just need a few final touches and assembly. Having fresh, handmade, and traditional Abruzzese food just got so easy. $13 CAD +

A delicious gift that supports local restaurants, while keeping your foodie buddy well fed. It’s a win-win if they share it with you too!

Some Blooms to Combat the Quarantine Blues:

Warming up the house with fresh flowers really makes a difference when you're spending so much time indoors. Why not gift a bit of sunshine, and buy a loved one a local flower subscription.

Photos by: Sweetpeas and Euclid Farms

Check out Euclid Farms for month long flower subscriptions ranging from small, medium, to large bouquets. Pickup only, the recipient would have to head to the shop, located on Queen St West once a week to grab their bouquet - not a bad thing when many of us are looking for an excuse to leave the house for some air. $100 CAD +

If you know your friend won’t be able do in store pickup, check out Sweetpeas on Roncesvalles for free Toronto wide deliveries. Flower subscriptions are customizable to be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and so on. $50 CAD +

A Gift for the Cocktail Connoisseur:

Drinks on you! Gift a loved one their favourite drink, or even better something from their favourite bar!

Photos by: Bar Mordecai and Reyna on the Rocks

Check out Bar Reyna’s Reyna on the Rocks, a DIY cocktail delivery and subscription service. Each at-home kit is customizable and comes with instructions and all the garnishes you need to make yourself feel like a pro mixologist. $34.99 CAD +

Another great option is Bar Mordecai’s cocktail and snack kit. With a fun and playful theme to their kits, it's the perfect gift for that person who might need a laugh, a drink, or both. We’ll take a Zoom Fatigue Kit, please! $65 CAD +

As Covid-19 restrictions are in place, many bars and restaurants are losing the majority of their revenue from the loss of liquor sales. Ditch the long wait lines at the big box liquor stores, and support the local spots you want to stay around.

For the Selfcare Specialist:

Your friend knows that the new virtual world is no excuse to let themselves go. And if they don’t, you can thank us later.
